29 weeks

And the baby bump keeps growing. While we've been busy around our house these days, trying to get lots of little house projects done before the holidays and before the baby gets here, I've definitely noticed I'm slowing down a bit lately. This bump just doesn't make it quite as easy to do projects... or even just to bend over, haha.

Wall decals

The decals I ordered from Etsy are up on the walls of the nursery! It went easier than I thought it would... they came pre-cut and all numbered so it was easy to see where they should go. Our walls have a slight texture to them which made it slightly harder to get them to stick on really well... but it seems to have all worked out in the end.

Our wall also isn't quite as large as a full wall (since there is a closet on the right side) - so we didn't end up using all of the pieces otherwise it seemed like it would get way to crowded with branches and birds.... but who knows maybe we'll use the extra pieces later on or put up an extra yellow bird somewhere else in the room for fun as well.

And here are some pictures of the project throughout the process....

More bump pictures

I took these pictures myself with my iPhone (I keep forgetting to take pictures when Matt is around, and didn't want to leave these weeks undocumented), so they are not the best photos with the bathroom in the but oh well.

New lights

We have some new light fixtures in the house, a new light over our dining room table and a new light fixture in the baby's room. It is amazing how much new lighting changes the feel of a room.

The light over our dining room table we actually found about 4-5 months ago (at Crate & Barrel online) and ordered it. It seemed huge when it finally came in the mail, but I was hopeful it would look great and so we stored it for about 4 months in the basement... and when the wiring was finally done in our attic last weekend we were able to install it! I really like how it turned out and think it fits perfectly in our upstairs.

The baby's room light fixture we got at Ikea (for about $40), and Matt installed this in last weekend as well since all the new wiring was done and we were anxious to see how it would look. We love how modern it looks, yet "fun" for a kids room, and it will go great with our white & grey theme.

Nursery updates

We got around to painting the entire nursery this last weekend, and I really think it looks great! My parents came down to help me paint which made it go by pretty quickly too. Overall I love how the shade of grey turned out (just the right medium tone....not too dark or light) and it really makes the white molding "pop".

On a sidenote - it was a little hard to get good pictures that really showed the shade of grey... since the ceiling light in that room is going to be replaced and most the light bulbs are currently burnt out (and it takes a special type of light bulbs... so I have avoided replacing them). We already purchaed a new white/modern looking light from ikea, so that will be installed soon hopefully!

Now I can't wait to put all the furniture together and start with the rest of the decorating.

Left side of the room, with all of boxes of furniture to put together (white crib & dresser)

Right side of the room (the closet door is on the left and bathroom door on the right)

And finally, the old nasty light which we will be replacing soon!

Baby bump pictures

For some reason folks keep asking me to show some pictures of the "baby bump". =)
Up until about 16-18 weeks I didn't really think it looked like a baby bump... so had been avoiding these. But I think it's starting to look like a real bump now (and Matt assures me it does... because he is smart...).

New York trip

I have been wanting to do a trip to New York City for a long time now, and for whatever reason we just never got around to it. I think we always found other vacations to go on like Thailand and Egypt... and thought NY would always be an easy place to go later and so we put it off. Well now that there is a baby on the way, I really wanted to do NY now with just Matt and I and see the sights before we have a little one. So this summer I finally planned it and the first week of October we headed off for 4 days in the big apple.

We crammed in a lot during our mainly 3 days there (we got in pretty late the first day and just walked around a bit by our hotel in Midtown) including...

Day 1: Times Square, Rockefellar Center, Central Park, the MOMA museum, the broadway show Chicago.

Day 2: The lower east side for brunch, The New Art Museum in Soho, walked around in Soho for some shopping and cupcakes at the cutest little bakery we found, then we ended up in the Chelsea area and walked along Highline Park which was super cool! (this park is raised up and was built over old train tracks and goes through the city), and finally the Chelsea Market and dinner.

Day 3: Ground Zero, The Financial district, hung out at the park where people get on the ferry for the Statue of Liberty and Staten island (we didn't actually take the ferry over though)... and then back home!

Here are just a few pictures:

Shades of Grey

Now that we know we are having a little girl... we decided on a theme for the nursery, and it's time to get started working on it! Whether it was a boy or girl, I've known for a while that I wanted the main colors in the nursery to be grey & white.

We already have white molding throughout our house, and white french doors which lead into the nursery. The baby furniture will also be all white which I've already purchased. So I convinced Matt we should paint the walls grey. I don't want them to be too dark though, it still has to be a happy room, so we are looking for just the right shade of light/medium grey. I then saw the cutest wall decals on etsy.com.... that look like white birch trees to put on the walls.

So we are thinking we will do this, and then add accent colors to the room of yellow (I'm sure this little gal will also have plenty of things in pink... but for the purpose of looking at lamps/wall paintings/pillows and other accents...we will go with shades of yellow).

Here is the first take at a few shades of grey I painted on the walls with some samples from Home Depot. I think the one of the right turned out too blue-ish, and the one of the left is too dark. The one in the middle might be just right though. =)

Here is also an example picture of what we are going to try and do after we buy the wall decals, and put these up on the longest wall in the nursery.  You can order the decal with different colors, but I love the white of the trees already, and for the little birds we will go with Yellow!
(stole this picture from the Etsy site - but giving credit below with the url in case anyone else wants to check out this guy's awesome decals)

Fall & Flowers

Although Fall is my favorite time of year in Seattle, I'm not quite ready for it to officially change seasons yet since we are finally having amazing summer weather! But I know it will be here before we know it, so while I'm putting off my pumpkin spice latte's and wearing my leather boots until October.... I did have to indulge in some beautiful fall colored flowers while we were at Pike Place market this weekend. I love that you can get such great bundles of flowers that make the kitchen feel special all week long for just $5.

Yum... fresh veggies from Pike Place as well.
And who knew there were such a thing as yellow and purple carrots?

Roof updates

The roof has new shingles and it's looking fresh and new! It is a slightly darker shade as well with dark grey/black shingles, where before they were a lighter grey/green that I think showed the wear/dirt/moss on the roof a lot more.

The gutters have also all been replaced and we are just waiting for the crew to come back for the last time and install some new flashing (metal trim that will match our green gutters & trim and protects it from weather). It's hard to really show in pictures how different it looks, but we think it really does make a difference looking at the house from the street, and are glad we decided to do this project since we got such a good deal!

Our next adventure...

It's official, Matt and I are going to be parents! Baby Glassman is due February 17th, 2012.
Now the countdown starts until we can find out if the baby will be a boy or girl, and then the nursery decor and office remodel begins.

We are so excited for what this next stage in life will bring....

A new railing

Not a super exciting update, but since we having been working on finishing out the basement with molding lately we finally also finished the railing on the "half wall" around our stairs which go down to the basement. The top of the wall was unfinished after it was drywalled, since we still needed to add a wood top to it (you could still see the edges of the drywall). So Matt spent a couple hours one night this week and got it done pretty quickly! Now I think I will just paint it white so it blends in better with the rest of our house and the molding everywhere.

The Roof

Well now that our basement is 90% done (we are still working on Doors, molding, and a few other finishes), why not have the roof of our house re-done right? Haha. Well this wasn't on my list of things to do, but Matt thought we should do it in the next 3-5 years anyways.... So when a new little company came into our neighorhood (their office is literally a block down the street on the main road) that does green home renovations, and offered to do our whole roof as well as replace our gutters and fix up part of our porch roof.... (at a killer deal since they are trying to get new business) we couldn't pass it up.

Luckily this project requires no work on my part, other than signing some paperwork, woo hoo!  And now by the end of summer we will have a brand new roof before the next winter.

Here are a few "before" pictures of the roof. You can see they have already delivered some of the materials and put it up on our roof where it has now been sitting for a week. Hopefully I will have finished "after" pictures in a few weeks.

Happy 3 years

As of July 18th we have been married 3 years! Can't believe it. Seems like just yesterday we were getting married, and yet at the same time it seems like we have done so much. We have gotten in quite a bit a travel (Egypt for one), accomplished a ton of projects on our house, and had so many fun times just hanging out with each other and friends. I can't wait for all the travels, projects, and adventures to come with my best friend. Love you Matt!

Paint & Carpet

Last week was a busy one. We spent Saturday/Sunday painting the basement with the primer, and then everything white. Then Monday and Tuesday I painted the main living room light grey and the bar area dark grey (it took 2 days since we did 2 coats and touch ups). My Dad even came down Tuesday night to help me paint which made things go much quicker! And while I worked on this Matt did the covers on all the lights and started finishing out the electrical outlets.

We were on a tight timeline since we scheduled carpet installation for Wednesday, and then had visitors coming that weekend. It all got done though which was amazing! Carpet was installed Wednesday, we got home that night and started moving all our boxes and stuff from upstairs down to the basement so that we could make our office upstairs into a suitable guest bedroom for my friends arriving on Thursday.

And here are a few pictures of the latest basement with paint and now carpet. Next up molding and doors...

It's hard to get a good picture of carpet. But in case you are wondering it's "loop" carpet, from the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot (made by Shaw). We chose the color "Glass of Milk" to keep it light colored in the basement. It's very plush (we got an extra good pad underneath it)... and a great bonus is that it has a 30 year warranty.

You can already see the closet in our future office filling up with suitcases/Christmas decorations/my wedding dress boxed up/Matt's boxes of comics.... at least it's not upstairs anymore!

Paint colors

We are actually painting the basement this weekend/week. Can't believe it. We started on Saturday by painting the whole basement with drywall primer and sealer. Matt was able to borrow a nice paint sprayer from a friend, so I think that made it go pretty quickly.

After many paint samples and going back and forth on colors, I think we have decided on our colors. We want the basement to feel airy and light (not dark since it's a basement) - so we are going with lots of white, with light grey, and some dark grey accents. We also plan to have some yellow accents once we have furniture and decor downstairs... I'm picturing yellow pillows on a dark grey couch, and my yellow glassybaby candles.

So... all of the ceiling and most of the walls (the office and bedroom in the basement for now) will be white... it's actually a shade of off-white which is not pure white, but still seems pretty white to me. Then the whole living room will have light grey walls (which we are hoping will make all of the white moulding really "pop"). And finally the kitchenette/bar area will have a very dark grey wall color, which we think will look cool against the bright white cabinets we plan to get.

So there you go. Wish us luck! A few last pictures of our white painted basement before the colors go on...

Living Room (ok not totally white... you can see some grey paint samples we were trying out on the wall)
